Review the LBP3 Music Sequencer.

So... It's finally out, right? The big reveal! The new beak for LBP musicians!

From what I've heard, the online is broken, they added fantastic new Bongo and Conga drums... Then new 808 samples and a high-pitched Nylon String Guitar and dubbed it a Ukulele. Even the Djembe doesn't sound realistic... Oh and don't even get me started on the Dubstep kit.

But I want your opinions. 1 - 10, review the LBP3 Music Sequencer! (And give reasons, of course.) Think realistically! Take away the high of a new video game in your collection and put it in perspective to what LBP2 had to begin with. I'm curious to hear your thoughts!

I give it a 3/10

I honestly do like some of the percussion they added. and I like the sample quality upgrade. but I was hoping for at least 20 new instruments ranging from new drum kits to new electric guitar sounds to new synths. I wanted effect settings and the ability to change tempo. I wanted a whole lot but I would have been satisfied with just a bit more than what they offered here.

the upside to this is that, there are plenty of tones and sounds to unlock with the lbp2 instruments. hopefully it will drive more lbp music people to learn how to blend sounds creatively.

not much of an upside really though. the musicians simply were simply forgotten .

I created water drums out of the djembe instrument.
Also, the new bass samples are great.
10/10

Uhh, 6/10? I was hoping for more instruments myself, but i'm happy with the new ones. I really like the new percussion, and ofcourse the dubstep kit. We should've definitely had more features though.

I really don't get why people like the Dubstep kit... Like sure, good effort on the part of the devs (since they saw HOW BIG OF A TREND IT WAS *cough cough*) but I mean

you can make better bass synthesis with a NES synthesizer and some post-processing. Hahahahah, I think the problem is that they have to record or synthesize everything themselves. (To avoid copyright.) But I mean

I've synthesized way better drums than LBP's... And basses than the Dubstep kit. It isn't difficult. I guess I'm just really let down that they ditched the music community. But more so by the fact that no one ditches them back to actually pursue their dreams in the real world. :/

masta did some interesting glitch hop with the dubstep kit and in years time i will stop making lbp music i wish that was so with others but they cling on to it and they even expect advanced stuff that DAW's do like automation and very realistic piano sounds

I like DAWs. To be more precise; Ableton Live (also Cubase 5, but I got that from a friend)
But DAWs is taking it the max level, you have plugins, wich can be synths or samplers.
A console would have a hard time processing alot of effects in a mixer and all other plugins.
But they indeed could make some automation things and some more instruments.

No need for 3rd party plugins if you just made your own synthesizers. It isn't that difficult to do now, digitally. a mixer, yes. Difficult for the CPU to handle. But if they made a music studio where all the CPU had to do was music, and then make it so that playback was through a rendered file rather than playing all the MIDI out live (as it is now) it'd be possible. And a lot better.

I didn't mean to implement it in the game, it was just to sort out the difference between the MS and DAWs.

A lot of people like to just keep making music as a hobby, in which case I can understand not wanting to put in the 10,000 hours to learn music production properly.

I guess it doesn't matter how many times I explain how simple the developers could make the interface. Ignorance is bliss I suppose

. yea. I get you.

also, I think i'll put out one more gallery. then whatever. i'm not going to continue to put all my emotions, ideas and hard work onto a novelty in-game music sequencer and release it into a community that don't give a &#$%... just saying.

I still enjoy lbp. i'll stick around and make some levels and whatnot.

Damn, are there really that few new instruments or anything? I guess they anticipate releasing them as DLC... ugh.

I think @Ayneh is right and they will release a couple great instruments for like 3 euros or dollars. The whole concept of DLC is frustrating me the last couple of months. -_-''

if they have more instruments up their sleeves, they really owe the music community these things for free. not dlc.. they just need to add it. in fact, they need to add in some really good free bonus dlc when they finally do this giant patch they keep promising, because they are letting down the entire lbp community right now in many, many ways..

Eh, it's alright. I was really disappointed with the lack of new instruments and all but 1 of the new ones were percussion, but they're pretty neat kits. The new bongo-ish instruments and the junk kit have been fun to mess with and the ukulele isn't too bad. Still hoping for DLC with more instruments (sax and flute in particular ). Also I think the dubstep kit will be the new Baiyon kit, i.e. either only good for about 5% of people who use it and the rest of the time it'd just be overused and pretty boring. Not much else to say on it.

It would be interesting to see if Sumo came out with any form of a mission statement as to where they stand. It's a given they are in this industry to make money no doubt. The question should be asked as to where the line in the sand is drawn in terms of appeasing their investors vs the community who buys into their games (not just LBP). It's a hard catch 22. A lot of the community members at the Network are wondering the same thing, "why the let down?" It's very hard to defend the very game that has brought us all together when it's literally crumbling right be for us.

There is little to wonder the game will improve; it will but at what rate, and when, is the biggest question. A constant in your face attitude on behalf of Sumo & or the community leader Steven would go a long way in helping to smooth things other while we all wait for the improvements to come. The typical stance that seems to be appearing is one of a robotic conclusion "We.....Will.....Fix.....Zip.....Hick....." .

Baritone Sax...and the other tones of Sax. Yes, a flute would be nice (high bass notes pierces the ear). Organs, guitars that don't sound demented. Just give us random stuff and surprise us!

So far I've only " played " with the new instruments. i'm currently making new music and i'm not even touching them

and @Little Big Network, I agree. it would be nice if they would at least respond to people. I've asked them numerous questions ( not rude by any means ) on twitter and getting a response from them is near impossible.

They created an organ sound in the soundeffects thingy, but they're too lazy to make an organ for the music sequenser? I just don't get Sumo sometimes.

for post dubstep i wouldn't recommend using the dubstep kit liberally but that scratchy lead sound can be used liberally the wobs are old school dubstep and the drums in the dubstep kit by itself is weak but layered with other drum sounds would make them better... and when used wrong the dubstep kit can sound.... very... wrong O_O

jusu_tengu's organs are better than they could make anyway (probably) and if you want the leslie speaker effect then use two blocks of the organ instrument then alternate left, right, left, right evenly you just have to sequence a note left panned, then right panned then, repeat, it's better than nothing
