To celebrate that LittleBigForum is back after such a long time with a brand new contest for you!
You have waited a long time for a new chance to win an awesome prize, therefore we are very proud to announce our newest contest:

LBFC4 - Together United


Task:

? You have to create a platformer based on each of the characters from LittleBigPlanet 3: Sackboy, Oddsock, Toggle and Swoop. We are looking for creative, clever and intuitive gameplay based on every characters special abilities.

? The player has to play with each character during the level but only with one character at the same time. Build a level where you switch to another character at special points and continue the level with the new character. It is not important in which order you play with them or if you switch back to an already used character during the level as long as you play with all characters at least one time. Try to integrate the switch between the characters into the gameplay that it does not interrupt the flow of the level.

Additional Comments:

- Even though we all love to see a visually appealing level, we are looking forward to original gameplay ideas above all for this contest! That means, gameplay will have the highest value in the grading charts, keep that in mind.

- A level designed for more players won't necessarily get extra points; bear in mind to create an experience that aims for creative and original obstacles, as well as smooth and intuitive gameplay combined with good looking visuals before anything else!

- We are also encouraging creators to surprise us with the new possibilities LittleBigPlanet 3 has to offer! Whether that is smart layering use, or an amazing and clever use of the new tools, we will be looking forward to all these things that might blow our minds!

-Include (LBFC4) in the name of your level.

-Publish your level between 9th July and 23rd August 11:59pm GMT

-Post your level's lbp.me link in here: LBFC4 - Participant list


DO NOT:

-Do not republish your level after the deadline. You have to ask a member of the judging crew
in order to do so, and only in special situations, like for bug fixing.

-Do not use an old level that was already published before as your entry.

-Do not publish your level on an old level (in order to avoid confusion with publishing dates).

-Do not publish more than one entry.


Rules:

-Only 1 entry per person.

-Max.  one level link per entry

-Your entry has to be created and published on LBP3.

-You may use power-ups, and any DLC you own.

- Published levels after the deadline won't be accepted

FAQ:

Q: Can I use Sackbots?
A: Yes Players are not allowed to controll them. Sackbots used for some design elements are allowed but do not count for the "use all characters" rule

Q: Am I allowed to use Power-ups?
A: Yes you are. Create your own or use an existing.

Q: May the platformer be a multiplayer level?
A: Yes but the players are only allowed to play as the same character at the same time. Minimal differences are allowed when the first player is in front and changes to the new character while the others are still on their way to that point as it is nearly impossible to prevent that. As a result of that it is not allowed to skip the "use all characters" rule by letting player 1 play with Sackboy, player 2 as oddsock etc.

Q: Can I create a Co-op platfomer?
A: Yes but with the same restrictions from the third question

Q: Can I co-create the level with my friends?
A: Yes but only the level publisher gets the prize.

Q: Am I allowed to use level links
A: Yes you are but only one per entry

An excellent idea for a contest, and it makes good use of what the game has had to offer. May I wish the best of luck to the participants, I very much look forward to seeing the entries and unfortunately am in the middle of another project of mine, or otherwise I haven't got LBP3 in my collection yet though. But still, one way or the other I'm dying to be a part of this if I were to someday. It's terribly great to see yet another lively competition from the site to celebrate and commemorate it's third anniversary. Have fun, everyone

Am I the only one who is already excited to see some great levels ?

Do we need to include a story? Do we get less points if we skip the story telling and just make pure gameplay right at the start? 

I like that this contest focuses more on unique gameplay rather than visuals, because gameplay is one of my stronger sides

We won't rate the story of your level directly so you don't have to create one but maybe it would be better for the overall experience but that can reduce the gameplay experience.... Your decision

All 4 must be playable does it have to be in 1 run or can we make choose option for example start with sackboy then switch to toggle and then the player gets the option to continu with either swoop or oddsock and in another play trough you choose the other 1? So all characters are playable but not in 1 run.

I have a question, if you can use one level link (two levels), the second level  must be a sublevel?

It is your decision if it should be a sub level but it should be clearly visible which of the two levels is the first part

I think that a good example of a level with a similar mechanic to what this contest is all about would be "The Great Escape" or the final boss level in LBP3's story. Anyway, should you have any doubt be sure to post it in here!

I have other questions in my mind.

What will be the official judging aspects? the gameplay (with all the characters. That I have it clear). but I do not think that it is the only point, right? I would like (if possible) clarify this a bit more, so this perhaps will help to all the participants.

I can't tell you the exact voting system but I can tell you that we will rate basic things like visuals, audio, overall experience but due to the focus on the gameplay we will rate the use of each character individually and not as one gameplay rating
and the individual rating gives more points than just one rating

This was exactly what I wanted to read.  

I'm curious now about the marking criteria! Although I am entering this for fun, I would like to know if you would get marked down due each character not having their own individual section within the level? From what I have experimented with, I have lots of little sections that I have used characters in, but not a 4th of the level designated for Swoop etc. I am pretty sure I won't as you stated earlier 'clever uses' which I know I have planned on! However, you also said that changing character should not interfere with gameplay, and surely pausing to change character for the following section of gameplay is classed as interfering?

Yes, it seems like a great theme to have some levels created that may otherwise have never been. I look forward to playing the levels from this contest so much! And I'm of course creating one. have fun guys.

I am not exactly sure what you mean but remember some points from the requirement: Your level has to be a platformer and you have to use each character at least once. Don't use several characters at the same time but you are allowed to switch to another character as much as you want The time you play with a character and if it is balanced is also important for the voting but it is also ok if you have multiple short parts.
Pausing to change the character sounds interfering, yes.

So in a sense, we need a gameplay section for each character instead of the combined help of characters (within 1 section) in order to progress? This would through a spanner the works as to what I have lined up due to the character switching method I have put in place and the gameplay I have already started making! However having said that, im going to try my luck anyway with what I have prepared as the critea states clever and intuitive gameplay which I believe I have planned out

I'm creating something, but the huge amount of errors in LBP3 is stealing my desire to finish this.

 at all the confident noobs trying to win. I wouldn't waste your time with this contest. If you look at the previous winners of these contests, you'll notice that the judges only choose people with Team Picks and thousands of hearts. I'll let you in on a little secret: The judges don't actually look for the best entry when choosing the winner. That would take too much effort, and the judges have better things to do than play this buggy mess of a game. So it all boils down to publisher reputation. Stuff like hearts, plays, and Team Picks will determine who the winner is. If you're unpopular, just give up now. You'll thank me later. 

Actually, the only winners of our contests who had a Team Pick before they won were KnownToKill and JellyBellyScout. 2 out of 8 contests.

But players who have that are mostly good creators and create good entries. The people have not team picks etc. without a reason. 2 of the 3 LBFC contest winners had at least one Team Pick before winning. Seems suspicious to me.

Just let it go man, it has nothing to do with bias.

Hmm... You can't really call that suspicious, you can really apply that logic to any other contest out there. We play every single one of the entries (as much as a 'buggy mess of a game' this game might be), and more than once if needed, per judge. Everyone has the same chance to win, there's no bias whatsoever when you play somebody's level. It's up to what is actually inside the level for which your chances of winning go up or down; i've seen great creators with meh entries and first-time publishers with things that absolutely blow one's mind.

And if you don't win, but you gain popularity with a contest and a good entry being an unknown creator, that's a plus too, at least from my point of view: you are making yourself and your work known by the community and thus they will be checking you out more easily...

I don't think I'll be entering this one, as I've plenty of projects on the go that need to be done. However, I wish the best of luck to all of the participants.

wish i could participate but i suck at making platforms there are a large veriraty of genres why did you chose Platformer?!?!?! Anyway good luck to the participants in this year's contest looks like i will have to wait till next year for another contest.

So when is the winner announced? Its already been 3 days since the deadline ended.

3 days is such a short time. The judging can last even a month.

well.. they have to consider a lot of factors and discuss things lol. plus there's definitely a good number of levels to play

There are about 10 members of the contest crew. That means you have to wait for everyone to post his votings for the final results. That is one thing. The other thing is that good judging takes its time. You can't simply rush through all levels and say that one was my favorite - finished. Maybe you have to play it several times to compare it with the other levels. We have also a special voting system - gameplay/visuals/.. etc.etc.etc. and each parts has multiple additions. Always remembering the task of the level and not just thinking "lets search for the best level" it is: "lets search for the best level with the given requirements"
That is the voting process. But there are most times some problems with different entries where you have to talk with the creator to be sure that no rule was broken.

Well lets say everything is done and we know the winner, but what do you expect us to do? make a short tweet: "The winner of LBFC4 is - ... , " Announcing the winner is something special that you have to plan aswell to get the most attention and additionally to that the best presentation.
