How to make small items.

I can't figure out how to make anything small, every time I try it gets all jumbled up or disappears. I've seen tons of super tiny intricate community items, how do they do it?

I think it's a matter of perspective sometimes, the right material or some is decoration instead of materials.

It depends on the materials, some you can make really small, others just dissapear, but there is a limit on all materials, you can work with stickers, then you can even make pixel games...

Hello BloodPuddles.

Oh I know this issue, it's a long time problem since the beginning. I have several solutions I use from time to time and it works quite well :

 - 1st of all, if you want to make a really thin platform or wall of any material, draw the thinest line possible, even if it becomes invisible. Then, select it, and copy / past it with the original line. As it becomes longuer, the game will now consider it as enough matter and make your really thin stuff visible again. I use it for grass for example. Don't forget the angle editor tool (not sure about the translation).

- 2nd technique : I just discovered the power of the material changing twiker. Try the option "supress bevelled edge" (not sure of the translation). You'll see that your material wont have those weird edges anymore, and will look good smaller.

- then, if you can replace the small material you want by some basic chape decorations, you have the tool "decoration animator", like Danx87 explain it here :

- At last, when nothing works and I nevertheless want some tiny thing, I use the sticker panel and replace my original idea by a 2D sticker. Remember you can draw tiny stickers, even using original ones but smaller, in the drawing sub-menu. Another item that I used to underestimate. I think it's the ultimate way to draw very detailed stuff. Like eyes or scars for your characters. If you want it 3D, just paste it on a matter for example.

I hope these 4 techniques will help you. If not, tell us more what you really want to do and we'll find a solution together.

Cheers.

Thank you, this was really helpful. I haven't tried making anything in these since the first one, so I'm a total noob right now. Like I was so confused by all this logic stuff when I got on, thought the game was still just put things on things and attach wires lol.

One more thing, how do you rotate characters while placing stickers? I definitely remember doing this before, I can't figure it out now though. I feel like I've tried everything.

I'd still like to know but it's not necessary anymore. I just made my costume on a sackbot.

When you hold a sticker over your costume, you can use R1 or R2, then your character will rotate, not sure which one

It's a pleasure to help. I learn myself everyday. Despite all the ingame turorials ( that everyone MUST see), the game doesn't explain everything to you. For example I was going crazy ignoring how to get cameras and animations longuer into a sequencer. (it's up and down on the right stick).

So anyway, to rotate characters while placing stickers it's L1 and R1.

See ya.

Hello again,

I forgot another good technique : make a BIG controlable sackbot, and everything around him in your level will look more small and detailled ! It works very well, and I assume some of eye-candy community levels are made like this.

I feel it would probably better to just ask here again, is there any way to put bolts on the backside of things? I'm practicing random stuff and tried making a controllable spider, but I have no clue how to get his other legs to move.

Hello again. If I understand well, you want the back legs of your spider to move too ? I assyme the spider is not viewed from above. Have you tried to fix them on an invisible matter, like sticker matter, glued behind of the body of the spider ?

I saw a guy on Youtube who made amazing animals, and particularly spiders. I don't remember his name, but I saw the beasts on his planet and it's freaking realistic. Maybe you can have clues finding his work.

Maybe you would get more answers creating a new thread.
