Howdy! Finally got photos to work (Just about) so here is some work in progress shots from a Shark survival RPG I plan to work on: http://www.littlebigforum.eu/upload/lbf/20170824205022_a97da62.jpg
For those of you who have heard of Dog_Egg, this level takes inspiration from his Oceanic explorer levels, with some additional inspiration from Depth and Saurian. The concept is you play as a Shark and get to roam a small area as you hunt for food, evolve, and....maybe some other stuff I'm not sure. The end result would IDEALLY be a small free roam RPG where alongside surviving, maybe you could interact with other sea creatures and such, but I'm not sure what exactly to include. I want to make something you can pick up and play for a while if you want to just swim around and eat stuff for a bit.

The environment may be small as the Vita only allows for such a big level space, but I am trying to construct an underwater area that is visually interesting and also has enough to do in it. Right now theres alot of coral reef area and stuff, but I'd like to try including some sea caverns and sunken ships to give it a bit more detail.

With the map likely only being small, one thing that I hope will keep the level interesting is the sea life you can interact with. So far, I've managed to make some WORKING FISH AI, that can free roam the sea as it pleases and also has collision detection (so it doesnt go through a wall and you hear a breaking sound). This small fish and its logic can be applied to stuff like seals which you will have to eat, but for any bigger creatures I may have to use a scripted path.

Anyway thats all to report for now! If you have any suggestions or stuff, please leave  a comment!

I really love this idea! I personally would add 2-3 different types of fish with different features. I would also love to see a HUD with some information about a nearby fish or a bar which shows your lifepoints and such.

Glad you like it! Right now I have just a plain ol fish made out of leaf decorations, though i was also thinking of adding perhaps schools of fish (like in big groups) and such. I was also going to be adding seals as the player's main foodbase, though it could be possible to add perhaps other NPC sharks (this is only a maybe but id like to do it). Perhaps squids too, as an enemy for sharks perhaps. If you have suggestions for any creatures then please leave them.

As for HUD, it depends on whether I wanted to add a multiplayer function. If so, id want the HUD to be displayed when the player makes inputs. For instance, you could start with no HUD, but pressing say UP on the d-pad displays a skill tree on how far evolved your shark is. Perhaps another button displays your health and hunger. I think a smelling function should only be added if a creature bleeds, as a sharks ability to sense blood would make sense with this. Alternatively, a shark could say press L to activate its enhanced sensing and be able to track food supplies at a distance. Things like sensing fish and stuff could be things you unlock.

The blood detection seems possible,as a small radar on one of the corners of the screen. You could impliment this by making a small barrier surrounding your rpg map and on the radar have a solid dot in the middle signifying a scaled down version of the map that only shows creatures that are nearest to you(You could tweak how much of the scaled down radar is visible.)Sorry if I didn't explain well enough, but goodluck on the project

A minimap is an interesting idea but I personally dont know how i would go about making that, especially if it tracks seals. I might just stick with like a faded arrow to point you in the direction of food sources.

By reading the name, I thought you were the shark chasing the other players, like in the actual shark survivals. XD

Nah, not a fan of shark survivals, though even that would be an interesting spin on things.

UPDATE: (Sorry for the break between posts)
The environment for the level is complete (generally speaking as I may add more later). Here are a few photos of some of the environment (I can only upload them as links it seems so):

Outside this, I also added SEALS, and the ability to eat them. The seals use the same AI as the wish slightly modded to swim away upon spotting a shark. Also another thing, to attack a seal requires the press of R which will lock the seals in the sharks jaws, but to actually eat it requires thrashing, which can be done by moving the L stick back and forth.

(The lighting changes as I was messing with it)

SOME NOTES:
My next move before adding more fish is to work on the Shark, and begin to implement a skill tree and leveling up. This won't be overly complicated but should keep the level interesting enough. The idea is the level plays like a mini RPG, where you can kinda pick it up on the go and see how long you last. If you die, you'll lose your skills and start as a brand new shark, so I dont think whatever I do is too complicated, moreso thiings like faster swimming and some minor extra abilities.
I can't promise when the next update will be but if I'm not busy I'll be sure to keep posting.

Wow, I totally love the pics and the scenery! And I'm looking forward to your level, a Shark Survival RPG seems to be a novelty in LBP,...I'm already rather curious! : I wish you a lot of fun creating your level and good progress! Many greetings, Jürgen^^

I forgot about this...

If you find some freetime, use some of it for this project, because a good and unique shark level in LBP would be great.

This is looking to be quite awesome! Was a bit apprehensive with the title being "shark survival" kinda made me think of a different kind of level. Thankfully I ended up clicking through because this sounds interesting and I really hope you are able to get the time to finish it soon xP

My thoughts exactly. The idea of taking such an infamously copied level's name and turning it into something you'd never expect is absolutely incredible! It's a shame I don't play LBP Vita, as this looks to be coming together very nicely, and I'd love to play it. Keep up the good work!

I'm glad I still play LBPV. Nearly every level of the recent published levels isn't that good. I have even seen a level called 'Porn 18+'. I queued that level. I'm curious about the level's plot twist.

When it comes to this project here, I'm looking forward to see a BETA or even the finished level. I hope you find the time to make all things Legopig.
