Hey guys, I'm a student at NTNU University in Norway, and I'm writing a master thesis about usability in video game level editors. The goal is to compare several different level editors, and do a usability testing of each editor.


But first, I need some information about the gamers (you). So if you could help me out so I could gather some data I would be very grateful!

I'm glad that somebody is making a lecture about level editors But seriously, LBP3 has an amazing level editor and it's also a big improvement over the LBP2 editor, which it was already great.

If I could review the create mode in this game, I would fairly rate it 9/10. There are some issues here and there, such as circuit board having an extreme lag spikes when there's too much of logic gadgets, or sometimes having to wait till the level finishes saving completely without leaving a level too quickly. But those are just nitpicks, because what you can achieve in this level editor is mind blowing. The possibilities are almost endless.

You ask: how easy was/is it to use the level editor?

I think when you begin with LBP3 and enable Advanced create mode, its really hard to find out how everything works, but after years you will see, its not so complex and its really easy to use for most things, but building complex logic can take several hours or weeks...

Yeah, that's my experience of it too.

I am a LBP veteran. I am playing LBP games since 2010 and I have every LBP game. I have put at least 800 hours into making levels. And learning the mechanics of the create mode took me months, when I first played LBP2. LBP3's create mode took me only weeks.
