A Level Music V Theory Grades

Hi,

I'm currently deciding whether to do A level music on not. I am not interested in a career in music, but I enjoy composing and performing. Some of my teacher say I should pick 4 more academic A levels and not do music. The other option is continuing with the AB theory grades, which I also enjoy and leave the A level music. Which theory grade is the equivilent to A level music? Is A level music useful if you are not interested in a career in music? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

If you're not interested in deeply going in classical musical composing or real jazz, the only thing that's needed is just listen to music a lot and that does help a lot more in first instance than knowing a lot of theory.

I definately think you should take A Level music, as you really develop all your skills and if you really love music it is wonderful to do an A level in something you love. A Levels are hard work anyway and it is musch better to do something you enjoy. Im taking A level music and although I don't necessarily want a career in Music, I really enjoy it and am finding that all my skills are continually developing. In comparison with just doing grade 8 theory, your level of musicianship develops in lot of different ways, (composition, performance, history) and you can always work your way through the grades anyway, that is what I am doing and I find that they compliment each other.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do!
