I've yet to pick up the newly knit Sackboy I'm afraid, but whether you have enough controllers or not, diving in's surely got to be shorter road one way or the other, whereby you could simply get what's required to grab the multiplayer prizes as if by magic! and I don't really see the problem with that either. It should be the solution in this case

Unfortunately, there's no 'Dive In' feature in LBP3 for some strange reason. And every time I would try the 'Join Us' option before entering a level, the game would either stutter constantly or fail to load player profiles.

Oh sorry about that! it's rather inconvenient, and might be the only option in a way at the moment then... but I hope you'll get enough volunteers soon!
