*NOTICE* The following is a tutorial on the process of "Synth Blending." You should at least have a decent knowledge of the Music Sequencer before reading to easily understand what I'm telling you. If you want an example of the use of "Synth Blending", you can hear it in the chords of my song, "Static Waves", available for listening here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWmv6hg1pbw
'EY! I saw that there were SO MANY tutorials on here, so many I thought mine might not even get noticed! If you've seen me on other fansites, you'll know that I make music tutorials! And so I'll carry that on to here. :3 Today, I'm going to be talking about something I've already covered before, synth combination! I know I've done it on another fansite before, but it's too good to NOT do twice. So, basically, synth combination, (or more properly called synth blending) is the number 1 best way to make more unique sounds and tones in your music. (Beside mixed beats, which I might also do twice.) Using this process will give you much more diverse and unique synths to use in your music, and it can generally make it all better. And it's a very simple process! Let me teach you. :3 So to start out, all you want to do first is make a loop. Once you've mastered your insanely epic loop, you want to transpose it. Now how do you do all these big words?! D: Well it's pretty simple if you don't know what I'm talking about. Copy and paste the loop right underneath the original on the Music Sequencer's timeline. (Basically, make both loops occur at the exact same time.) Then, take another beautiful instrument out of your Tools Bag and place it on top of the duplicated loop. Once done correctly, the original loop will keep its same notes, but become the new instrument. That, ladies and gentleman, is transposition. Add it to your vocabulary. :3 Now, once you have transposed your instrument, you're basically done. Unless you want a REALLY unique sound and do the above process three or maybe even, (if you have your adventuring pants on) FOUR times, for some crazy results. Now here's something pretty cool: you can examine the characteristics of certain synths you're blending to get specific sounds. For instance, if you have a plain old Square Wave just hangin' around, and you decide, "HEY! This square wave is too dry." And you want something a bit more, "airy", if you will, simply choose another instrument to blend it with that is, well, "airy"! Specifically, a Ray Gun. And after this, you think your sound is a bit too dry and you want a wetter sound, simply grab a more "wet" instrument! (These include the Robot and the Saw Wave.) Using this can give you a whole new array of tones to use in your tunes! Now here's something VERY important to remember about Synth Blending: it has to be done with synths that generally have similar attributes, (such as sustain, level, octave, etc.) or else it probably won't blend well. For example, trying to blend a Harpsichord and a Sine Wave together wouldn't work because the Harpsichord's sustain is FAR lower than the Sine Wave's infinite sustain. On a held note, you'd hear the Harpsichord die out and then all you'd hear is Sine. That's not our goal here, we want to blend the two so that they become one, and a new sound/tone. Another thing to remember is that a lot of acoustic instruments won't work very well with this method. Some do, so experiment yourself, but don't expect everything to work like a charm. *WHEW*.. That was a lot to cover. e_e But hey, I'm done here. So go make some new, unique tunes! And thanks for listening to me talk. Or, type, respectively. You get the idea. kthxbai. |

Thanks for this music tutorials Lil_Morta!
I know how to play the piano pretty well and stuff, anyway, I find making some original tracks with the sequencer a bit complicated, so I really appreaciate this stuff. I'll check out your other tutorials too! |
