Sackboys and Sackgirls, come one, come all, to the 5th Planetarium Creation Contest! This time around, you'll need to equip your creative-combo-caps for a zany design challenge exclusive to the PlayStation Vita!

The Planetarium Creation Contest criteria for this contest are:

Create a level for LittleBigPlanet: PS Vita focusing on building and maintaining the highest point-combo possible
Use the Ballpoint Pen collectible in your level
Document your idea generation and creation process

Each of the three criterion will be taken into account during judging. More details of each part can be found below.

Creating a combo challenge
The most enticing levels are those which keep drawing you back to that replay button. The levels in which you attempt to earn the highest score possible and show off just how much you rock at LittleBigPlanet! As such, we want to see what all of you awesome creators can do when tasked with making a level designed around maintaining big, super-awesome point bubble combos! You'll get some bonus points from the judges if the entire level can be completed in one big combo chain.

As examples of the type of level we are after, look to Tower of Whoop from LittleBigPlanet 2 or Flounder's Jump and Jive from LittleBigPlanet: PS Vita. Each of these levels is laid out in such a way that when you start collecting bubbles, you can maintain your combo to the very end.

Other little details:
Your level must contain a clear beginning and end - a survival challenge is not what we're after.
This is a LittleBigPlanet PS Vita contest. Levels published on any of the other games will not be judged.
No level links, please! It's impossible to keep a combo through a level link, so you must contain the entire entry in one level.

Using the Ballpoint Pen collectible
Levels must include the Ballpoint Pen object, which can be obtained by completing the Magic Mouth Tutorial on LittleBigPlanet: PS Vita. It is recommended the level feature a creative use of this object. The more original the better!

You may:
Sticker and decorate the object to alter its appearance without altering its shape
Use the object multiple times throughout the level
Use the object in unique and creative ways

You may not:
Decorate the object such that it is not recogniseable as a ballpoint pen
Place the object in the level such that it does not fit in with the rest of the stage (just bung in the pen for the sake of it)

Think carefully about your use of the pen, its positioning, function, and decoration. Most importantly be unique. We love seeing things that haven't been done before.

Documenting your creation process
One of the visions we had when we created the LittleBigPlanetarium was the focus on the idea generation, creation process, creation documentation, testing, and the overall publishing process that a creator undergoes to produce a good level. We encourage sharing of these tips and tricks with each other because it fosters understanding and helps others improve in their creating ability as they develop and construct their levels. Thus, one of the contest requirements is that you document your creative process and share it with the community.

There's a wide range of ways in which you can document your creative process. We want to hear about the challenges you faced, the decisions you made, the solutions you concocted - how did you bring your level from a master-idea to a fully-fledged masterpiece? Apart from using the on-site blog feature, you can use video blogs (vlogs), tumblr, a google document or any other method you can think of. Here are some ideas to get you started...

Blogging daily about what you did or encountered that day
Blogging after significant milestones are passed in your creation process or when significant problems are encountered
Record video of you explaining your creating techniques, ideas, and goals at regular intervals
Develop a detailed outline of the creation process including creation methodology, idea generation, and problem-solving tactics
Publish a level showing the creation process, explaining how the level was developed, and how certain level features were created
Record audio of you talking through your ideas and creating tips and tricks
Keep your friends updated on the progress you are making (you should provide chat logs or other documentation of this)
Or anything else that follows in the same vein

All those entering are advised to engage with other entrants - discuss your levels, talk about problems and solutions - communicate! Get involved with the community, and ideas will flourish.

Contest Deadline
The PLCC5 contest will officially end at

May 8th, 2013 at 11:59:59 PM UTC

Entry levels must be completed, published, and posted here along with links to your documentation (blog) before this deadline. Late entries will not be accepted, unless there are mitigating circumstances. Minor editing (small bug fixes, etc.) will be allowed post deadline - but be wary, judges are only required to play a level once - what they see is what you will be judged on. For this reason, try to ensure all bugs are sorted before the deadline.

Submitting your level
Entries will be accepted from Planetarium members only. Levels are submitted to this competition by providing two links:
A vita.lbp.me link to the finished level that you wish to be entered into the competition (or, if your vita.lbp.me profile is hidden, an explanation of how to locate the completed level)
A link to the documentation of the level creation process. You may want to provide a link to your documentation before the level is completed, so that other members can learn from your struggles and successes.

Once you have posted in this thread with your entry and a link to your documentation, your name will be added to the list of entrants below. Please be wary this will not happen automatically - we will get around to doing it. If your name is not there after a period of time, please let us know and we'll add it right away.

That's all there is to it. Best of luck to all of the entrants! We look forward to seeing what you come up with.
