It's very difficult to explain to my friend. He is really mad because no one popular played his levels.
I want to know how YOU did get popular.
He doesn't want a forum acconut because he thinks lbp.me links don't work
and he uses the "republish technique" too.
Sooo... any ideas?

It all depends on how your friend defines the word popular. If he believes that he will become popular by getting more plays on his levels, then they have to be really unique. So unique that people will remember the creator that made the levels, and they should be interested enough to check that creator for newer levels in the future. This could be described as a fan. Fans are people who are constantly going to play your levels and encourage you to make new ones. They really like your work, and that's why they often heart you as a creator.

But trust me, plays are not always connected with popularity, it takes a lot of time and effort to make yourself a name out there that people will remember. Stay original, work hard on advertising your levels and you will realize that people will start noticing you more.

Who cares about being popular when you could just make levels for the fun of it? It's a labor of love, not a popularity contest.

i can't say i'm a fan of this new republishing thing. and i'm not sure honestly. some people make really great things and try very hard (maybe too hard) to advertise and get people to play, and still don't get any attention... he could always start making the generic, formula based levels that are known to get plays.. that seems to work for people concerned with being known

I started critisizing really crappy levels. You know, like, people that h4h, can't create at all, then get their levels on the Cool Pages and get a ton of plays and yays and reviews by people who loved their brushed together bomb survival created in like 5 minutes. Note that this was mostly on the Vita version where the Cool Pages weren't screwed up like on LBP2. Basically the "good" levels that got small hype moved up on the pages to stay there for two days and then disappear from it. Or if you were a popular creator, i always assumed you had more chance getting on there. My levels usually did, even if i'd make a joke level. So if there was some crappy creator who made something crappy, i'd say my honest thoughts on it. Basically this guy called Midopower who couldn't create levels himself started saying "OMG HE A BULLI IM SO HURT FEELENGS CRI!!!!" and in return, he started bullying me himself (i never said a word about him, only just his levels) and then his braindead fans started following up like "you are bullying him!! thats so mean!!!! i hate bullying!!!!!!! your a stupid idiot i hate you kill yourself!!!!!!!1". It's just ridiculously stupid as his levels are clearly crap, he also level links them to eachother to farm plays, and he H4H's too. It's only right to critisize him, as he really needed to improve his levels. So instead, i got a group of hating, bullying, spamming 10-year-olds after me who'd do anything to protect their glorious leader Midopower from getting bullied. Even though i didn't bully him. Sometimes i'd get messages going like "OMG YOU BULLY MIDO YOU SUCK". And if i'd send them screenshots of him clearly bullying me and other good creators, they'd just pass it off and say "I DONT CARE YOU STILL BULLY!!!!!!". As i just said about other creators, well, there's loads of stuff he'se done. One day he offended a teampicked guy who was also a friend of his and he replied with a ton of messages, even one saying that he didn't even care anymore, he was getting depressed, and he was "leaving tears on his Vita". The other day he offended another person, also teampicked, saying he sucked and everyone could make levels as crappy as he did, even he (that last bit is a lie because Mido sucks). And then some other time he told another friend (not teampicked but still quite popular and he'se a sick level creator) of mine that his levels sucked and they made him want to puke. Oh, and he also said this: "If i had a gun and i'd see you in real life, guess who i'd shoot? Right? Me, because your levels make me want to kill myself.". It's just ironic as he'se the biggest bully and hater of LBP, but it's swarmed by tons of 10-year-olds who will always believe him as he'se popular and can't understand the difference between critisism and hating. Hating is miles away from critisism. People need to learn this. I've had so many problems on the internet and in games because people don't know what critisism is...

But still uh, haters make me famous.

And if the haters didn't make me famous, it was most likely because of my platformers or my music levels. I've made a ton of music levels in LBPV and they generally got good reception, and thanks to some people using my music all the time in their levels, i got a big popularity boost. I'd say, just build something cool and it will catch on somehow. And advertise around the place to get it noticed. (Or ofcourse, tweet some screenshots to StevenI and bait for favourites and him retweeting. That'll always get you popularity. Think, like, up to 20 favourites and retweets or something.)

There is a big difference between criticism and hate. I checked your recent activy Woutery. I saw you write reviews such as "This makes me wonder they removed the boo button" That if anything is nothing more than a provocative way to get somebody's attention. It's as like you were trying to become hated.
Not to mention that from everything I saw you write on this forum, it's very hard for me to believe that all you did was leave criticism. Sorry, but Based on what I saw, you're a lot more hostile than you make out to be.

Skeptical is yet one of those people that honestly doesn't create very good. And he'se copied things of mine as well claiming it was his, such as my logo/avatar. His level is crap, do you expect me to say it's good if it's crap? No, right?

Wether copied or not is irrelevant. The point is, there is a difference between criticism and hate. If I play a bad level, I won't go all say that it was horrible just on the basis that it was. I'd give tips for him to improve. That is not what you did, you are simply saying that it's bad. Nobody is telling you or forcing you to give your opinion on something bad.
That's just mindless hate and it means that you take pleasure in bringing people down. It is true that when someone makes a level public, hate and criticism is to be expected. But doing so because it is permitted simply means you are a jerk.
Anyone who takes joy in insulting a 10 years old isn't someone I want to get close to.

I don't necessarily do that. I just share my thoughts on things. Okay, sometimes it's constructive critisism, other times it's just critisism. And honestly, sometimes a level is SO bad that i myself don't see how the creator who made it could ever improve, and i just say it's bad. The difference between constructive critisism, critisism, and hating is a complex one.

Perhaps you know Scarybiscuit? When he started making levels they also weren't very good. So i gave him tips whilst slightly bashing his levels to give him a push, and he started improving and getting into silhoutte levels and look where he is now! A ton of teampicks, loads of famed levels, participation in the LBP3 Gamejam and the Beta, and much more. Don't think i'm trying to say "well i h8ed him wehn he started he ows his faem 2 me!!!", but critisism, hating and feedback can quite definitely be a push into the right direction. Wether that right direction be keeping bad levels from being famed by the 10-year-old horde that is the community, or generally trying to help improve someone's creating abilities by giving helpful tips. You get a tip, whatever that tip is, and you take it in and use it to improve your next level. Wether it's worded as "those bouncepads are horrible, they suck, why add them anyways" or "you shouldn't use bouncepads there, they don't work very well", it's still a tip.

The worst of the worst levels made by idiots that don't understand these differences and pass all feedback off as hate, well, they won't improve anyways, so it's best to just make them stop corrupting the community with bomb survivals and poorly made jump levels. Also, you really just can't fetch a good retrospective from one single review. You just can't. Annoying to see that my recent activity doesn't show a lot more than everything from 2014 as i've given a ton of reviews, critisizing, giving feedback, everything.

Fair Enough. I am nonetheless not a fan of spam insulting a kid in the hopes that he stops publishing copied levels.

I don't spam insult people. I play a level, i review it. I don't do a lot of reviewing on LBP2/3 as there isn't enormeously much new things to review - the Cool Pages are filled with spamlevels and things. I may not like Skeptical or Midopower but i'm not spamming insulting reviews, i just leave one review and they respond with spamming insults towards me instead. Mido definitely did some mean things on LBPV. But i'm okay with it as he quit LBPV and right now he'se trying to become famous on LBP3 and it's sort of... well, not working out enormeously well. He H4H's a bit but it's not really like he has a ton of fans or anything, except a few people from LBPV and a couple of trolls. I'm okay with him now.
