LBP Moderation FAQ

1) What are the rules for LBP?
LittleBigPlanet users must practice respect for one another at all times. We expect you to be polite in the game and within your created levels, as well as in the comments section. Treat others nicely and play fairly. You are expected to refrain from offensive text, icons or images, profanity, cultural abuse, sexual harassment, and any form of discrimination based on age, sex, sexual orientation, and race amongst other things.

2) What are the consequences if I am breaking the rules?
The consequences vary depending on the offence and the account?s history of prior offences (if any). The most minor punishment is a warning. For more serious or repeated offenses, your account may be suspended or in the most severe cases, your account or console can be banned from all network activity permanently.

3) What do I do if I encounter a problem user or an offensive level in LittleBigPlanet?
We have a team of in-house moderators working to help make PSN an enjoyable environment for our users. However, if you encounter any problems with other users or content whilst playing LittleBigPlanet, here?s how you can block offensive users from communicating with you and report inappropriate content to our moderators:

a) Blocking a Problem User on LittleBigPlanet
If you wish to block another user, head on over to LBP.me and Sign-In using your Sony Entertainment Network account. Once you are signed-in, go to the profile of the user you wish to block and click on the button1.png button in the toolbar at the top of the page.

This will bring up some more information on the blocking functionality including a new button under the user?s profile description button2.png.

Just click on this button to confirm that you would like to block the user and they will no longer be able to post any Comments or Reviews on your Levels or User Profile.

b) Blocking a Problem User on the PSN
LittleBigPlanet and the PSN use two different messaging systems, so it?s possible that an unwanted user attempts to contact you with a PSN message, rather than within the LittleBigPlanet game.

If you wish to block the user from the PSN as well, please see the ?How to block another PSN user FAQ" for more information.

c) Reporting Offensive Content
If you encounter any content that you consider to be offensive, you can report it to our moderation team by pressing the Select button in-game to open up the ?Good Grief!? form. This will allow you to submit a screenshot of a selected part of the screen showing the offensive content, along with providing a tag that describes the exact nature of the offence. The selected part will help moderators to identify the actual offense easier, so please ensure you make your selection carefully.

Once you have submitted a Good Grief report, it will be added to our moderation team?s report queue and they will endeavour to investigate your report as quickly as possible. If they agree that the content is unacceptable, they will remove the content from the game and may even enforce warnings or suspensions against persistent offenders.

Please only report content that is offensive or otherwise unacceptable for LittleBigPlanet.

This tool should not be used for content that you simply do not like and anybody found to be abusing the Good Grief tool may find themselves getting in trouble too.

d) Advice on how to deal with Problem Users
Whilst it is rare that you may run into a problem user, there are a few steps you can take to save yourself a whole heap of trouble:

Use the Good Grief Tool
Report their offensive content to our moderation team (as described above) so that they can investigate the issue.
Don?t Respond to Them
Problem users sometimes crave attention. Simply don?t give them the satisfaction of responding and most of the time they will get bored and leave you alone.
Block Them
If you find that a user persists with bothering you, you should block the user on LittleBigPlanet and on the PSN (as described above) to prevent them from being able to contact you.
Do Not Post Private Information Online
You should be cautious when posting private details including information such as your email address, Facebook page and Twitter name. Please remember that once you post these contact details publicly, they are out there for everybody to see.
Do Not Report the same content repeatedly
If you do abuse our grief report function, your account can be suspended.

4) What happens after I have submitted a report?

The report is sent into our central moderation queue where it will be reviewed by one of our team of human moderators who will consider it in context and take appropriate action if our Terms of Use have been breached. Appropriate action may include suppression or deletion of inappropriate content or warnings, suspension or bans of offending accounts (for more details see here). Remember false reporting is also a breach of our terms of use.

5) My account was suspended or banned. How do I know?
Every time your account has been suspended or banned you will get an email explaining what happened, so make sure you use a valid email address as your PSN sign-in ID.

6) My account has been suspended.
Please take the opportunity to check out our Community Code of Conduct FAQ and think about how your behaviour might have deviated from what stated in the Sony Entertainment Network Terms of Service. Then please wait until you are able to log in again and, when the suspension is over, please be more careful about your behaviour in PSN.

7) Can users submit a false report?
We seek to verify all incoming reports for accuracy before taking any action. Submitting false reports is a breach of the Terms of Service and we can take action against users who do that.

8) Can I copy someone else?s level and use it as the basis for one of mine?
To copy a level to your own Moon, hover over the level badge on the LittlebigPlanet, and press . Options will appear and if the level is copy able, you will be able to copy the level to your My Moon.

When a level is published, its creator can choose if they want other people to be able to copy it or not.

9) My level has been moderated, what does it mean?
If a level has been moderated, it means it has been reported to contain content unsuitable for LittleBigPlanet, such as offensive text, naughty pictures or copyrighted things. A moderated level is taken offline and checked by a moderator to see what is wrong. If the level is found to be fine, it will go back up automatically in a short while; if it is a naughty one, then you will be asked to change the offensive part before you republish it.

10) Can I become a moderator?
In order to become a moderator for PlayStation you would need to get a job with Sony. You can check the Sony website to see if there are any openings right now.

11) Who are the moderators?
Moderators work for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Limited (SCEE) and are here to work together with you, our community, to help create an enjoyable network environment where we can play games, socialise, watch videos and have fun.

Moderators are responsible for processing any grief reports submitted by users, enforcing the Terms of Service, and trying to ensure everyone is essentially nice to each other.
