Fixing the Cool Levels

Everyone complains about the cool levels being completely ruined by spam levels, so why not try to get it fixed on LBP3? There's one simple way to do this that will keep a majority of bad levels off of the cool pages and it wouldn't be that hard for Sumo to do... Make it so copied levels can't make the cool pages.

yes. this was even suggested many times to sumo. instead of trying that, they just took them out... now it's really hard to find any good levels . lucky dip and cool pages did actually have great levels.. you just had to look .

I'm afraid to report that this solution would fail and I will explain why. If all copied levels was blocked from the cool pages then what would happen to the legit copy-able levels? I am talking about people who likes to share tools, levels, custom backgrounds and what not. All copied levels are not the recycled junk that you see on the cool pages.

Another problem is that even if a copied-levels-block was added, spammers would still have all the copied levels on their moons already. And those who didn't would have to make their own crap levels to spam on the cool pages. These "crap" levels can be even worse than a copied level because the boosting exploit will still exist. The boosting exploit is how spammers get their levels on the cool pages, they use multiple accounts to rate their own level until it reaches a certain point in the cool pages. Some spammers even teams up with other spammer that also has 16 accounts and that becomes big numbers pretty fast.

There is nothing wrong with the copy feature, which is one of the core features in the create-share-play categorize. The problem is the spammers, and as long as they have motivation to ruin LBP we can never have a working cool pages.

I hope this gives you a better understanding. Easy solutions is not always the best answer when you look deeper into the consequences. The fix that would truly make LBP free from copied spam levels would be to incorporate a new rule in the EULA that forbids these kinds of activities in LBP. As for now it's totally legal and there's no disadvantages in doing it except for some angry comments on your profile.

yea. it is true that some legit levels are copied. sometimes level project get made on someone's moon and they want to transfer it to be published elsewhere. different EULA rules would be nice.. then you could simply report spammed levels when you see them.. i'm not one to report things but that would be something I wouldn't mind reporting.

I can think of one more issue with it though.. legally, what would be technically considered a spammed level? a level template is basically a copied level with edits. spammers may be able to get around that rule by simply editing a few things in the level. i'm not really sure what a flawless system would be.

It's essentially a list of the most popular levels of each week. It's automatically generated unlike the Team Picks which is why so many copied levels appear in it.

They wouldn't have to block all copied levels. They'd just have to block the levels that have been spammed. For example, they can create an algorithm that will skip over just known spam levels (Kill Justin Bieber, Flappy Bird, Obstacle Course, Saw, etc) while searching for levels to place in the cool levels.

@Fox etc would stand for Shark Survivals, Bomb Survivals, FNAF, unnamed, (levels without a badge, description, or tags), and Mortal Combat.

I mean, if someone published a thread explaining what the cool pages are and someone commented, "Thanks for telling me! I didn't know," then I would count that as sarcasm. There's really no way to make a sarcastic remark about this thread, though.
